in August each year and attracting in excess of 40,000 visitors.
Olympic medallists compete alongside amateurs in the four
International event classes, whilst British Showjumping and
showing classes provide a platform for riders in other

The Bruadar Country Fair runs alongside the equestrian
activities on the Saturday and Sunday, featuring displays of

Open Days - Archaeologists Digging at Fortingall
The archaeologists and their helpers will be digging at
Fortingall between Wednesdays 17 and 31 August, and will be on
hand to answer visitors’ questions.
An exciting new archaeological dig will take place at Fortingall village
during August.
Archaeologist Dr Oliver JT O’Grady, best known for excavations
at Scone Palace, has joined forces with interested locals to
discover more about Fortingall’s ancient history as one of the
earliest places of Christian worship in Perthshire.
Following his successful survey of the site last year (see
sketch), Dr O’Grady will be directing the excavation of trenches
in the fields surrounding Fortingall village where the remains
of an ancient Pictish monastery are believed to rest.
There will be opportunities to see finds from the dig and
perhaps to get your hands dirty! For those with a keen interest
there are also still a few places available on the digging team.
No prior experience is required.

Visitors should note that limited parking facilitates are
available beside the Kirk and Fortingall Hotel. Follow signs to
the dig from the kirk car park. On the open days (Saturdays 20
and 27 August) the Molteno Hall will also be open to show more

refreshments and toilets.

The Olympic Torch Relay will be a 70-day celebration that
will travel hundreds of miles to bring the London 2012 Games to
almost every community across the UK
The Olympic Flame will be lit in Olympia, Greece, before
arriving in the UK on 18 May 2012 and embarking on a relay
before arriving at the Opening Ceremony of the 2012 Olympic
Games on 27 July 2012
In all, 8,000 Torchbearers will get the chance of a lifetime,
each carrying the Flame and, with it, a message of peace, hope,
respect and friendship
The route has been designed to come within a one-hour journey
for 95% of the population of the UK
• The Bank of Scotland Olympic Torch Tour will be a 16-day
interactive experience from 20 August – 04 September 2011.
• The Tour is a nationwide road-show inviting the public to:
o See the London 2012 Olympic Torch and have their photo taken
with it
o See Torches from past Relays and learn about the history of
the Relay
o Find out how to nominate someone to be an Olympic Torchbearer

Open Days - Archaeologists Digging at Fortingall
The archaeologists and their helpers will be digging at
Fortingall between Wednesdays 17 and 31 August, and will be on
hand to answer visitors’ questions.
An exciting new archaeological dig will take place at Fortingall village
during August.
Archaeologist Dr Oliver JT O’Grady, best known for excavations
at Scone Palace, has joined forces with interested locals to
discover more about Fortingall’s ancient history as one of the
earliest places of Christian worship in Perthshire.
Following his successful survey of the site last year (see
sketch), Dr O’Grady will be directing the excavation of trenches
in the fields surrounding Fortingall village where the remains
of an ancient Pictish monastery are believed to rest.
There will be opportunities to see finds from the dig and
perhaps to get your hands dirty! For those with a keen interest
there are also still a few places available on the digging team.
No prior experience is required.

Visitors should note that limited parking facilitates are
available beside the Kirk and Fortingall Hotel. Follow signs to
the dig from the kirk car park. On the open days (Saturdays 20
and 27 August) the Molteno Hall will also be open to show more
of the archaeology of Fortingall, and provide further parking,
refreshments and toilets.
