Children's Castle Tours - aged 5 and above.
Blair Castle - Blair Atholl
Marvel at amazing exhibits and find out some fascinating
facts on a Children’s tour of Blair Castle.
See Viscount “Bonnie” Dundee’s breastplate, the actual armour he
wore in battle! He was killed in his moment of victory over
government forces at the battle of Killiecrankie, three miles
south of Blair Atholl in 1689. The breastplate has a bullet
hole. But is it a real bullet hole or just a clever fake? Blair
Castle was famously the last castle to be held under siege in
1746 during the Jacobite uprising. The castle was bombarded with
cannon balls and several of them remain here to this day. Find
out how they cooled down the red hot cannon balls that blasted
through the walls. You may find the answer very surprising.....
There will be two children’s tours per day and times will
vary. Please ask at the reception desk for details. Tour
duration: approximately 30 minutes. Children must be
accompanied by an adult and numbers are limited. Times
will vary, ask at reception Prices: Free as part of
standard Castle entry Booking: In person only at the

Wednesday 7th April
D Day - An illustrated talk by Brigadier Christopher Dunphie
Pitlochry Festival Theatre Pitlochry
In 2009, we celebrated the 65th anniversary of D Day: 6th
June, 1944, the day when 156,000 Allied forces parachuted,
landed by glider or stormed ashore on the Normandy coast to
begin the liberation of Western Europe – an action which
ultimately led to the end of World War II one year later. In
memory of those momentous events and the many brave men that
took part, Pitlochry Festival Theatre is delighted to host this
D-Day Evening, with proceeds going to The Army Benevolent Fund
and the Soldiers’ Sailors’ and Airmen’s Families Association (SSAFA).
Brigadier Christopher Dunphie - an acknowledged lecturer and
author on the Normandy campaign - will divide his talk into two
parts, describing first the background, planning and
achievements of D-Day, and then taking us ‘down onto the ground’
to hear stories of a few of the more significant actions, and
dramatic first-hand accounts. This will be a fascinating
evening, full of rare insight and stunning images. Tickets £7.50 Pitlochry
