The loch tay cruise in a dutch waterbusA trip on the Dutch Waterbus 'Glen Lyon'  on a beaThe pier at dalerbutiful summers day. I would hasten to add that the Glen Lyon is a covered vessel so even if it is raining you will still be very comfortable.

Before turning up we phoned 0781 466 6253 to make sure of the sailing times. Our trip was 3.30pm. The pier is at Dalerb which is about 0.75 miles from Kenmore beside Loch Tay on the road to Fearnan. There is ample parking.

The spirit of the tay a victorian steamshipThe glen lyon cruising loch tayAt the pier you will see the substantial structure of the 'Spirit of the Tay' which is currently under construction by Fergusons the Scottish ship builders. Walking below the 'Spirit of the Tay' gives you some idea of its size. As I understand, it is anticipated to have this in service ready for the 2006 season.

We paid our dues £6.50, child £4.50 and family £18.00 at the neatly turned out port a cabin ticket office.

Comfortable seating in the glen lyonGood visibilty all round of loch tayThe boat then came in and we watched the passengers disembark before going on board ourselves. The seats are arranged either side down the length of the Glen Lyon. The full length of the Glen Lyon has windows that allow for excellent vision and even above the seats thre are windows allowing for light and site of the blue sky or birds.

During the leisurely 6 knot cruise we received a basic commentary telling us various points of interest from crannogs to the depth of the loch to plans for the Spirit of the Tay. At one point an Osprey, and Joe and Sam from manchester who enjoyed the cruise with usrapture the size of a sea eagle was spottedThe captain and crew are at the front of the glen lyon and we watched it fly along the Loch in the direction we were heading.

The literature describes the cruise as 'enjoyable and relaxing', we would certainly go along with that. All to soon we were back at the pier, were the next bunch of folk were waiting their turn to board.
