The Clunie Walk from Pitlochry
7 miles (11.25Km)

Allow a minimum of 3 hrs.

Marker post on the moorland routeThe view looking back over pitlochryThis is one of a series of walks taken from the Pitlochry Walks leaflet. All are well signed and are along safe and established paths. The Pitlochry Walks leaflet with maps and details on each of the walks can be obtain from the Tourist Information Centre, the Boat station and some shops in Pitlochry.

As with all walks make sure you are properly equipped with rain coat, water and food if you intend being on the hills for some time. Good footwear is a must.

The path takes you through the forestry woodland above pitlochryThere is a steady uphill climb, intially through farm land, then through forest. Taking the left turn on the route, you will proceed to climb up through the woods along side a wee burn. The forestry road from the pine plantationThe water

burbling away and the still silence of the trees and the chatter of the birds, make it very special. I felt almost as though I should not talk, talking was rather like leaving rubbish or graffiti. It was so lovely.

The path leads you over a style on to open moorlandThe path eventually comes out on to the forest road that leads to the mast on Clunie Hill. The road takes you through the pine plantation, with occasional glimpses through the threes to the open moors. Eventually you will see a gate and beyond this there is open moorland.

The views from the moorland are fantastic, with glimpses of Ben y Vrackie and the all the hills to wards Rannoch. The moorland is relatively The view to ben y vrackieflat, but can be boggy particularly in wet weather, so make sure you have suitable On top of the world, or at least pitlochry highland perthshire worldfootwear.

As you sweep round to the north, the views change to those over looking Tummel valley, Killiecrankie Pass and over Pitlochry. All making the walk even more enjoyable. The walk then takes you down off the moorland and in to the pine trees, and steadily back to the road you left on your way up and then on down to Pitlochry using the road you can up by.

In august and september you will find flowering heatherThe spiders web still with the morning dewThe combination of walking through the plantation of trees its stillness and the open moor makes this walk very enjoyable. The variety is very rewarding.
